Research Development

Project Objectives

The project has three broad objectives:
1. Varietal / Hybrid Development – Development of high-yielding, climate-resilient vegetable and exotic vegetable varieties/hybrids suitable for J&K conditions.
2. Hi-Tech Structure Establishment –Under advanced protected cultivation structures (Station/ Farmers) to carry out region-specific research on standardization of packages of practices under Hi-Tech environments.
3. Instrumentation and Automation – Design and development of new instruments and automation systems to improve efficiency, precision, and sustainability of Hi-Tech vegetable production systems.

SKUAST-K Activities

P03POV01 – R&D 01: This component focuses on the identification of area-specific vegetable crops and the development of improved vegetable varieties and hybrids suited to the agro-climatic conditions of Jammu & Kashmir, with the aim of enhancing productivity, resilience, and quality.
P03POV02 – R&D 02: This component involves the design and development of region-specific hi-tech structures to support protected cultivation and controlled environment research for improving vegetable crop performance and resource-use efficiency.
P03POV03 – R&D 03: This component aims at the design and development of automation and instrumentation for hi-tech structures to enable precise monitoring and management of environmental parameters, thereby improving efficiency.
